Trail of the Cross



Signposting: white red no. 2


Starting point: Piazza di Lumignano


Time required: 2 hours


Short but challenging walk that leads to the most panoramic point of the area and returns to the Sengio dei Mulini.


It starts to the North passing in front of the Church of San Maiolo to reach a capital dedicated to the Madonna. You climb a short stone staircase at the base of which is engraved the inscription: Via alla Croce. At the junction you go up to the right for about half an hour, reaching, at 242 meters above sea level, the Cross erected in 1882 that overlooks the wall of the climbing sector called "la Classica". Continuing downhill you arrive at the "Sengio dei Mulini": imposing boulders precipitated in times far from the walls, which lie poised between the houses of the district.

Trail of the Cliffs of San Cassiano

Time required: 3 hours


Route full of panoramic views and points of various interest around the overhanging walls of the Cliff.


Recommended a visit to the Covoli with the Hermitage of San Cassiano. It starts as for the previous itinerary. At the first junction continue straight, along the side of monte della Croce to the north. You pass the Copacan Fountain, and the Covolo Copacan, also used in relatively recent times as a dwelling. Shortly after, on the left, some steps lead to the Hermitage of the Cross. (see.....)


Keep the main path until you reach the top of Mount Brojon (m.201). Always following the path n.3 you descend towards "Cà Vescovana", to continue up to the Cross of the previous itinerary.

Trail Of Mount Brosimo

Starting point: Piazza di Costozza


Time required: 4 hours


Excursion between nature, art and history. Numerous villas and gardens around the starting point.


After passing the Church of Santa Sofia, you pass the underpass of the Face. Following Via delle Grotte on the right you can see Cisco Houses, built close to some recesses of the old quarries. After passing the Pieve di San Mauro Abate, continue along the rocky path "Trodo delle Laste". You always follow the trail marker, meeting along the way the small oratory of the Madonna delle Grazie and the Church of San Rocco. You will find "Via Vescovana" on the left, take it until you turn left into the "Finestrale" street. Going down on the opposite side you reach the chasm of the "Tre Oci". You cross the coast of Mount Brojon meeting the prehistoric sites of the Brojon Cave and the Grottina dei Covoloni del Brojon. Once on Via Brojo you get off on the road to continue towards Costozza, passing in front of the Villa Godi-Miotto.

Trail Of Vajarole

Starting point: Piazza di Lumignano


Time required: 3 hours


Along one of the wildest Beric valleys, where you can meet the red lily.


From the square take a westerly direction, going up via Villa and Via Rialto, to the locality of il Sasso, where the path that leads to the climbing sector called "Classica" begins.


Take the marked path n.5, climbing along the rugolo, a track for the transport of stone blocks dug into the quarries of the place, to reach the carriage road near the trattoria "La Vecchia Quercia". From here in a westerly direction continue to the Crossroads of Roveron, the highest point of the route.


You descend into the woods, bypassing the volcanic chimney of Lumignano, to enter the Ugly Banks, where you can see the cliff called the Sphinx. Once in the village at the capital of Sant'Antonio turn left, to return to the starting point.

Scandolaro Path

The itinerary has in common some sections with the previous route, but allowing you to reach the vicinity of numerous caves and hills that overlook the village.


After the start in common with the path n.5, the path, arrived at the confluence of two streams, climbs on the left, up to the remains of the Cold Fountain. After another stretch in common with the previous path, take a junction on the left to descend on the Scandolaro basin, where natural and artificial cavities open: the Grotta della Sporgenza, the Grotta Federica, the Doppia Cava, the Covolo della Spaccatura and the Covolo degli Orfani, used, like the others, as a refuge during the last war.


We go up Monte Cucco, to reach the rural complex of Ca'Menarini, obtained in the caves of Covolo Colasso. From here you descend to the Grotta Perini, the quarry from which the stone was extracted that was made to descend along the rudder. Descend along the Ugly Banks, until you reach Contrà Borgo.

Sengi Bei Trail

Time required: 3 hours – 4 hours


Path that extends the n.8 allowing the visit to another cave and a series of interesting hills upstream of Castegnero.


Follow the previous itinerary to the Castellano saddle, where you follow the Via Castellano to the entrance of the path on the left. The route continues to the Sengi bei, the wall where the covoli of Castegnero open.


You can visit the Covolo Rampante, the Covolo delle Nicchie and later those of the Old Church of Nanto – the Covolo Murato Grande, also called Covolo del Merlo, divided into several rooms and used as a dwelling until recent times, and a little higher up the Covolo dei Covoletti – and further on, the Covolo Picinin and the Covolo del Pilastro. Cutting at high altitude you connect to the path n.1 that you follow to the starting point.

War Col Trail

Time required: 2.30 hours


Short but challenging adventurous excursion with a visit to the Caves of War and Walls: the first is visible entirely wearing boots.


From the square follow Via Villa and at the intersection with Via Borgo turn left. You cross a bridge and after 100 m. of cemented road you take a track at the edge of the clearing, to reach under the vertical wall where the Grotta della Guerra is located. To enter the west branch you must be provided with boots and torch. The gallery develops in two directions: it has numerous stalagmite concretions, including the Great Casting, which ends in the form of a large jellyfish and the Great Column, more than 20 meters high.


Continuing you reach the top of Monte Castellaro, from which it descends to Lumignano following the eastern ridge.
